President Franklin Delano Roosevelt said,

“We must scrupulously guard the civil rights and civil liberties of all citizens, whatever their background. We must remember that any oppression, any injustice, any hatred is a wedge disguised to attack our civilization.”

The National Republican Election-Rigging Conspiracy of 2012 Already Showing Its Infection As Numerous Blatant Crimes Committed During Maine Primary Caucuses

A few new tricks and reliance on the old reliables, we see the evidence everywhere of the Republican Party’s official adoption of a national policy of try-to-buy-or-steal every election, every time.

Maybe some day we will be able to trust elections in the U.S.A. again. That day is not this day.

San Diego holds kiss-in Wed., July 22, at Mormon temple in solidarity with Salt Lake City gay, het couples’ 2 kiss-in protests

San Diego group plans ‘Kiss-In’ protest at big Mormon temple

Date: Wednesday, July 22, 2009
Time: 5:00pm – 6:30pm
Location: San Diego Mormon Temple
Street: 7474 Charmant Drive
City: San Diego, CA 92122
Please RSVP here.

An equal rights group in San Diego plans to stage a mass kissing demonstration outside the San Diego Mormon temple as a show of support for a gay couple insulted, man-handled and handcuffed in Utah by “temple police” and cited by Salt Lake City Police for trespassing after sharing a kiss on so-called “temple property”.

The Empowering Spirits Foundation says the “kiss-in” is intended as a peaceful rally to encourage dialogue between Mormons and the gay community.

The event is scheduled for Wednesday evening at 5:00 p.m. at an enormous Mormon temple on a hill overlooking the freeway near La Jolla, Calif.

Two “kiss-in” protests have already been held, including both opposite-gender and same-gender couples, since Matt Aune and Derek Jones were cited on July 9 for trespassing on property still called Main Street Plaza in downtown Salt Lake City, the sale of which (along with all public easements onto the formerly, still visually, public property) to the Mormon religion the Mormon-majority city council of Salt Lake City inappropriately orchestrated, and the Mormon-majority courts in Utah upheld.

Lateisha Green anti-transgender murder trial goes to jury in NY

UPDATE:

According to the Associated Press, jury deliberations ended Friday, July 17, resulting in the manslaughter conviction of Dwight DeLee for the killing of 22-year-old Lateisha Green.

The Syracuse jury, in upstate New York, also convicted DeLee of fatally shooting Green outside a house party in November because of “anti-gay bias”, according to the AP.

The jury deliberated for about six hours over two days.

DeLee faces additional prison time because he was convicted of a bias crime. He becomes just the second person in the U.S. convicted of a bias crime that involved a transgender person.

As many of you know, TLDEF staff members have been on the ground in Syracuse, New York, working with the family of slain transgender woman Lateisha Green, who was shot and killed in an alleged hate crime last November. The trial has put a tremendous strain on Lateisha’s family, and that strain has only intensified now that the jury has begun its deliberations.
