First, although you may not know or see us, we are everywhere, we are every kind of person. There is nothing “off-topic” for us Queers, or for this self-styled United Gay Force Independent Communications Unit.
[Larry Kramer’s press conference inspired us to encourage anyone willing to follow his advice to use an image like the one above, somewhere, anywhere. Copy this one, take it, do whatever you want to it. Make your own. We temporarily replaced our website logo with the one above for about six months. It’s just a suggestion. Call a united gay force anything, base it everywhere, be a part of it by your own definitions if you understand what Larry Kramer was advocating (he talked for a long time), and what your participation means for you and what it includes. Remember that all of that will keep changing.]
UsQueers.com remains devoted to assisting with the protection of the rights to “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” for all Queer people (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersexed and their supporters) at all times and in all places.
Through the information UsQueers.com chooses to feature, we try to avoid just duplicating the hottest content easily found elsewhere, presented better commercially. We provide news, features, editorials and some entertainment. We’re a journalistic, organically re-growing and expanding resource.
Second, we have long been horrified by the actions of neo-Christian nationalists and other types of neo-religious exclusivists and supremacists -- they aren't the same Christian or Islamic religions they have been traditionally. Christians have mega-churches now, worldwide television and radio coverage, and anti-choice "pro-lifers" who can convince themselves to murder, and Islam now has sects which believe it is okay to keep killing other Muslims through suicide while until recently killing Muslims and committing suicide were both specifically banned -- who have visions of taking over the world, and whose sneering lack of humility all along has been a shallow cover for an intentional absence of rational restraint against abuses of the power and trust they were given, as described in the revealing conversation below. (Ron Suskind)
“In the summer of 2002, after I had written an article in Esquire that the White
House didn’t like about Bush’s former communications
director, Karen Hughes, I had a meeting
with a senior adviser to Bush. He expressed the White
House’s displeasure, and then he
told me something that at the time I didn’t fully
comprehend – but which I now believe gets to the very heart
of the Bush presidency.
“The aide said
that guys like me were ‘in what we
call the reality-based community,’ which he
defined as people who ‘believe
that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible
reality.’ I nodded and murmured something about
enlightenment principles and empiricism. He cut me off.
‘That’s not the way the
world really works anymore,’ he continued.
‘We’re an empire now, and
when we act, we create our own reality. And while you’re
studying that reality – judiciously, as you will –
we’ll act again, creating other new realities, which you
can study too, and that’s how things will sort out.
We’re history’s actors . . . and you, all of you,
will be left to just study what we do.’”
